Ruthie Burd, founder and President of the Lunch Lady, has come a long way for someone who grew up avoiding the kitchen. Back in 1993 Ruthie was looking for ways to supplement the family income yet be there for her young sons. When she realized there were no cafeterias in most elementary schools, and that many parents found making school lunches a chore, an idea was born.

The idea quickly grew into a viable business and Ruthie started franchising the concept across Canada in 2001. Today, kids at more than 1,300 schools sit down to a nutritious lunch thanks to the Lunch Lady. This year, upwards of two million meals will be served through the more than 50 franchises in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. Join Ruthie as she tells her story.
