by ChelseO 9th June 2014

Traditionally the 3rd Sunday in June, Father's Day 2014 falls on the 15th of this month. The one day a year designated for spoiling Dad, the city offers a range of great events to choose from. Read on for some great gift and activity ideas to ensure Dad has a day to remember. Show him how much you appreciate him by making this Father's Day the best one yet!

Father's Day BBQ at Casa Loma

Show Dad he’s king of the castle. Casa Loma, an enchanting Toronto landmark, hosts an annual Father's Day BBQ. It runs from 11am to 5pm and tickets include a delicious grilled meal, live entertainment, self-guided tours, family activities and more. Tickets cost $40.00 for adults, $35.00 for youth and seniors and $30.00 for children. Kids 3 and under are free.

Do It For Dads Walk/Run

This feel-good event is the Prostate Cancer Canada Network Toronto's only fundraiser. A walk/run in support of the cause, it's perfect for survivors, supporters and their families. Previously called the Safeway Father's Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer, half of the proceeds go to support the network itself, while the remaining funds are donated to the network's research projects. Held at the beautiful Ashbridges Bay Park, registration opens at 830am and the walk/run begins at 1030am. Learn more here.

Dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak House

Nothing says “Happy Father's Day!” better than a juicy steak cooked just how he likes it. The Richmond Street West location of Ruth's Chris Steak House will hold an exciting Dad’s Day promotion to celebrate. Every hour between 1 and 8pm, the General Manager will draw a table number for the head of that table to win his steak, or an equivalent entree, for free. It's a win-win.

Gift Ideas

Choosing the perfect Father's Day gift requires creativity. What are Dad's main hobbies and interests? A sports fan would love tickets to see his favourite baseball, hockey or soccer team destroy the competition. The more sentimental type would cherish an engraved watch or picture frame. The technically inclined might enjoy a new gadget such as a tablet, camera, headphones or fitness tracker; if you’re Dad’s a handyman, then new tools are sure to please.

There are many ways to do Father's Day right in the city and a BBQ at Casa Loma, a steak dinner and a fundraiser for a great cause are only 3 options. End an afternoon or evening spent enjoying one another's company with a thoughtful gift and you've created the ultimate experience for Dad. What are you doing for the holiday?
