With a population of over 2.5 million, Toronto is one of the largest cities in the world. Located in southern Ontario, it's a true Canadian gem and a multi-cultural hub of activity.   1. From 1793 to 1834, Old Toronto was known as the city of York, Upper Canada's second capital.

  2. It is North America's 5th largest city (behind New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Mexico City).

  3. Movie stars Jim Carrey, Eugene Levy and Mike Myers (of "Liar, Liar," "American Pie" and "Austin Powers" fame) are all from Toronto.

  4. The last time the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup was in 1967 (47 years ago).

  5. The PATH (link to Toronto Transportation?) hosts the world's largest sidewalk sale once a year.

  6. Toronto Island is North America's largest urban car-free community.

  7. A favourite Canadian pass-time is skating, which is why the city is home to more than 50 outdoor skating rinks.

  8. More than 1.5 million trips are taken every day on the streetcars, subways and buses of the TTC, Toronto's public transportation system.

  9. Based on market capitalization, the Toronto Stock Exchange is the largest in Canada, the third largest in North America and the seventh largest in the world.

  10. The Toronto Zoo is home to over 5,000 animals representing more than 500 species.
